Superman is the brainchild of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who first envisioned the character in 1932 and later had his first appearance in Action Comics #1 in June 1938. What Jerry and Joe did not know at the time was that they had created a character that would become the signature icon of DC Comics and the most universally recognized hero in human history.
Since 1938, the character of Superman/Clark Kent has appeared in every imaginable media form including television, film, novelizations, and even a Broadway show.
Being Superman is the childhood fantasy of every little boy and girl (they of course want to be Supergirl). He is an enduring emblem of the American dream, the young immigrant who comes to the United States, embraces the culture and makes something of himself and enriches his adopted nation. He is a classical hero in the modern age who fights criminals, rescues the helpless and has a sense of morals and justice as strong and unshakeable as he is.
Since 1998, the Superman Super Site's mission statement has been to bring you all the latest news, updates, and information pertaining to the Man of Steel and the Superman universe in general.
It is a mission we are proud to maintain for all the fellow Superman fans of the world and everyone who visits our site because, without you, we would not exist.
Kotobukiya is taking its popular lineup of comic book and movie characters based on DC Comics properties to a whole new world with statues from DC television shows on the CW.
Coming to the 1/10th scale ARTFX+ Statue series after the Flash, Green Arrow, and the evil Reverse Flash is the Girl of Steel and protector of National City on her own show, SUPERGIRL! Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth from Krypton to care for her baby cousin Kal-El, but unforeseen gravimetric and temporal anomalies led to her ship arriving much later, and she grew up in the shadow of her famous family member. It was only as an adult that Kara decided to become a superhero and immediately the world fell in love with Supergirl.
Now the mighty heroine stands tall in ARTFX+ Statue form featuring screen-accurate costume details and an incredible likeness of actress Melissa Benoist! Supergirl stands tall, ready to take on any threat with her super powers along with her unquenchable spirit. The protector of National City radiates strength and grace with her legs spread apart, body straight, and face looking straight ahead into danger.
She wears the costume made famous on the television show complete with thigh-high red boots, red skirt, and form-fitting blue top with a gold belt-like band across her middle. Theres an incredible texture sculpted into the costume across Supergirls torso, and its further accented by red piping on her arms and chest and of course the bold raised red and yellow S shield! Meanwhile, a knee-length red cape hangs behind her.
Thanks to Kotobukiyas craftsmanship and new 3D rendering technology the heroines face is sculpted and painted to look exactly like actress Melissa Benoist. While Supergirl stands tall, you can display her in no fewer than three different ways thanks to included interchangeable parts; pose her with arms down at her sides, fists pressed to her waist, or arms crossed across her chest as you like!
Supergirl stands just under 7 inches tall (in the ARTFX+ 1/10th scale) and stays secure on her included display base thanks to magnets in her feet. Kara is a hero for the ages and will look awesome in your home whether she stands alone or alongside other DC TV statues like Green Arrow and Flash!
The Supergirl ARTFX+ statue currently available for pre-order at Entertainment Earth.

In a recent interview with PopZette, former Superman star Dean Cain talked about his days portraying the Man of Steel on "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" and touched more on the possibility of bringing the show back for a fifth season. Here's an excerpt:
PopZette: You recently mentioned you'd be interested in continuing "Lois & Clark" with a fifth season or a follow-up movie - which got many people excited. You're still in the DC family with appearances on "Supergirl" and other comic book properties, so is there a realistic chance of a revival of that show happening?
Dean: "Lois & Clark" was not supposed to end after four seasons. We were ready to shoot a fifth season, but my co-star, Teri Hatcher, got pregnant. Filming is incredibly grueling, so the decision was made to end the show. That left us in a very strange place because at the end of season four, Lois and Clark had had a child delivered to their doorstep with no explanation. I still don't know whose child that was!
I think it would be incredible to shoot six new episodes of "Lois & Clark" and catch up with the characters 20 years later. It would be amazing to check in on Lois and Clark and Superman after all this time. It has never been done. How is their relationship? Do they have kids? Do the kids have superpowers? What obstacles have they overcome? Have they aged? What is life like now for them? For the world? There are so many questions and possibilities! It could be so smart and interesting if done correctly.
PopZette: You do many con appearances and have a lot of direct contact with fans. Many actors like to keep a great distance between themselves and fans. Do you find interacting with fans benefits you as a performer?
Dean: Only in the last few years have I begun [doing this]. I was actually unaware these events took place, but I've had very positive experiences. When you're filming a television show, you're on set 16 to 18 hours every day with the same cast and crew. You're quite isolated. You get lost in the work and don't hear much about how the show affects real people.
One of my favorite things to hear, especially having played Superman, is when someone explains they watched the show as a young person and [that] it helped them grow and/or deal with problems. Or [they'll say] they had a special bond with a parent or grandparent, and the show reminds them of that special person, that special bond. I also hear things like "That show saved my life," or "It helped me get through high school," or "It was the only show I could stay up and watch past my bedtime!"
Dean currently stars on the hit CW television series "Supergirl" in which he plays Jeremiah Danvers - foster dad of the title character - who was thought to have been deceased for many years but, in season two, was revealed to be very much alive.
Check out Dean's complete interview with PopZette here. Continue Reading
Former "Smallville" star Tom Welling has officially joined the cast of "Lucifer" for the upcoming third season of the FOX television series.
According to Variety, Welling will play the role of Marcus Paige, an accomplished police lieutenant who is strategic, reserved and well-respected which is everything Lucifer is not. But perhaps even more annoying are all the things the two characters have in common, both being charming, charismatic and "handsome as hell."
This will mark Welling's first return to television since the epic conclusion of "Smallville" back in 2011. Since that time, Welling has pretty much avoided the entertainment spotlight while starring in only a handful of films including the historical JFK drama "Parkland", the NFL sports drama "Draft Day", and the romantic drama "The Choice".
The third season of "Lucifer" premieres on Monday, October 2nd at 8:00PM (EST) on FOX. Continue Reading
During the recent "Smallville" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, fans were treated to a trailer for the upcoming third season of the hit CW series which featured first looks at actress Erica Durance ("Smallville") in the recently recast role of Alura Zor-El and actress Odette Annable ("House") as the villain Reign.
Other new season three cast members were announced during the panel including actor Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes", "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") who will be joining the show as Morgan Edge, a charming yet ruthless real estate developer who has big plans for National City which results in him being at odds with both Supergirl and Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).
In addition to Reign will be the psychic villain Psi played by actress Yael Grobglas ("Jane the Virgin") who has the power to use an individuals own mind against them.
DC Comics veteran actor Carl Lumbly will also be joining the cast as M'yrnn J'onnz who is not only J'onn J'onnz's father, but also a peaceful religious leader on Mars who "pushes his son in unexpected ways." Lumbly should settle quite easily into the new role as he previously voiced Martian Manhunter "Justice League" animated series.
Rounding out the new cast members is newcomer Emma Tremblay ("Elysium") who will play Ruby, an intelligent kid from National City whose fan-girl fascination with the Supergirl may land her in some dangerous situations.
The third season of "Supergirl" premieres on Monday, October 9th at 8:00PM (EST) on The CW. Continue Reading
DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has revealed that SYFY's upcoming series "Krypton" will feature appearances by Doomsday and Brainiac.
During the recent "Krypton" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Johns told those in attendance that the two iconic DC Comics villains will be involved in a present-day conspiracy to prevent the birth of Superman with Brainiac being one of the show's primary antagonists.
The character made his first appearance in Action Comics #242 in 1958 and it remains to be seen which version of the villain will be featured on the series.
This will certainly not be the first time that Brainiac and Doomsday have been featured in live-action appearances with both characters having been depicted on "Smallville" starring actors James Marsters and Sam Witwer in the respective roles.
Doomsday was also featured and the primary villain in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" where he was portrayed as a mutated clone of General Zod.
Johns also went on to state that several other well-known DC characters will appear in the series including Adam Strange, Hawkwoman, and the alien planet Black Mercy. The news certainly comes as a surprise as many expected the show to focus all-new original characters, especially considering that the series takes place decades before the birth of Kal-El.
"Krypton" was developed by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler and is scheduled to premiere on SYFY in early 2018. Continue Reading

Its one of the most popular and powerful Superman stories ever told, but its such an epic tale that it cant be faithfully told over a single film. So when Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment adapt the famous story of the death and return of the Man of Steel just in time for its 25th Anniversary, itll be as two separate feature-length animated movies.
Revealed at San Diego Comic-Con tonight at the packed Batman and Harley Quinn world premiere, the DEATH OF SUPERMAN adaptation was just one of the upcoming animated films in the popular DC Universe Original Movies line that was announced for 2018.
First out of the gate will actually be Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, an adaptation of the popular 1989 tale that introduced us to a Victorian Era Dark Knight who was in pursuit of Jack the Ripper. Written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by Mike Mignola of Hellboy fame, BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT is largely considered to be the very first Elseworlds tale. At 48 pages, the original comic is relatively slim, meaning the movie version will offer an expanded version of the story, something thats sure to delight fans of its cobblestone-paved world.
That will be followed in the spring by Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, the first Suicide Squad movie set within the DC Universe Original Movies shared continuity. (Batman: Assault on Arkham, the 2014 movie that also featured the Suicide Squad was set within the Arkham video game continuity.) Hell to Pay will feature an original story and whats promised to be an amazing, though sadly not-yet-revealed, voice cast.
Rounding out the 2018 releases will be Death of Superman, the first part of the two-parter. Adapting the legendary story of Supermans fatal battle with Doomsday, this will actually be the second DC Universe Original Movie to adapt the material. The first, 2007s Superman: Doomsday, was the very first DC Universe Original Movie and greatly condensed and altered the original comic book event to fit within its 75-minute running time. The upcoming adaptation will be more faithful to the source material, much less condensed and will include many of the fan-favorite moments from the story that were left out of Doomsday.
Finally, in early 2019, look for Reign of the Supermen, the second part of the two-part adaptation. While well have to wait for an official synopsis to learn all of the details, that name should be a familiar one to Superman fans and suggests well be seeing the rise of the Superman alternates that took his place during the year after his death. (For those unfamiliar with the story, they were Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Last Son of Krypton.) This part of the Death and Return of Superman was greatly simplified in Doomsday, which instead featured a single alternate Superman rather than the four we saw in the comics. Continue Reading

DC Collectibles, the award-winning line of collectibles directly from the source, DC Entertainment kicked off San Diego Comic-Con: International with several major announcements, including the expansion of its grittiest line of statues, Gotham City Garage. Racing onto shelves in 2018, the biker statues will be joined by an all-new 6.75 DC Essentials action figure line starring DCs most popular Super Heroes and Super-Villains designed by fan-favorite comic book artist Jason Fabok. DC Collectibles also revealed new character additions to the highly anticipated DC Artists Alley designer vinyl series and announced plans to expand its best-selling action figure and statue lines including Batman: The Animated Series, DC Bombshells, and more.
DC Collectibles is doubling down on Gotham City Garages growing popularity and will reimagine two new Super HeroesBatgirl and Supergirlas bold, fierce, biker statues. The move coincides with DCs announcement earlier this week that it will publish an all-new Digital First comic book in August inspired by the statue line.
The idea behind Gotham City Garage is to explore the tough and gritty alter-egos of DCs most iconic characters such as Wonder Woman and Catwoman, and now Batgirl and Supergirl, said Jim Fletcher, executive creative director, DC Collectibles. Just like with DC Bombshells, its exciting to see these character designs strike a chord with fans and transcend from statues into comic books and beyond, and were eager to find out just how far Gotham City Garage can ride.
Produced at the 9'' scale, Batgirl and Supergirl will join the already released, best-selling Gotham City Garage statues of Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman, and will cruise into stores in 2018.
DC Collectibles will also launch a new 6.75'' DC Essentials action figure line that will feature classic DC Universe Rebirth character designs and the greatest range of motion ever produced by the company.
DC Essentials will be an evergreen action figure line and will feature classic representations of DC Universe characters including Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, among others, said Fletcher. These designs will embody the core of each character and will attract both our most dedicated fans and those just starting out with their collections. Were thrilled to deliver these figures at the larger 6.75'' scale and cant wait for fans to see the new moveability that allows for more intricate poses. Were excited to have Jason Fabok on board as the series designerhis stunning art style is a perfect match for DC Essentials.
The first wave of DC Essentials figures to release in 2018 will include Batman, the Flash, Superman and Aquaman. Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, Green Lantern and Nightwing will debut in 2019.
Also revealed at SDCC were new characters slated to join DC Artists Alley, a series of designer vinyls directly inspired by the popular Artist Alley convention experience. Putting artists front and center, DC Artists Alley celebrates each designers offbeat art style and offers unique interpretations of DCs most iconic characters. The new figures revealed today include Wonder Woman by Chris Uminga, Batman by HaiNaNu Nooligan Saulque, and Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn by Sho Murase.
Fan-favorite Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) action-figure line will debut two new villainous offerings in 2018 including a Harley Quinn Expressions Pack and a Jokermobile based on its infamous appearance in the 1990s TV show. Scaled to fit 6'' BTAS action figures, the Jokermobile will have working wheels and several light-up featuresa perfect mode of transportation for the clown prince of crime.
The acclaimed DC Bombshells universe will also expand in 2018 with new Black Canary and Zatanna characters joining artist Ant Lucias popular Designer Series Bombshells action-figure line. Warner Bros. Television premiered the latest footage for their upcoming SyFy Channel series "Krypton" at last evenings Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con.
The latest footage offered a first official glimpse at the upcoming Superman legacy prequel series which Collider has posted the following description of:
The trailer begins with majestic and interplanetary imagery and a narration from Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), grandfather of Kal-El, a.k.a. Superman.
Kal-El, my future grandson. I know you will fight to save your world, just as I fought to save mine, he says over clips which feature other cast members including Ann Ogbomos Alura Zod, Georgina Campbells Lyta Zod, and Ian McElhinneys Val-El, Segs grandfather, who reminds him not to forget the name of his family. Theres even a person with multiple golden faces seen in the reel, implying that we will see any number of interesting and strange creatures on the doomed planet Krypton. (Ann Ogbomo may be recognizable to DC fans as she recently played the Amazon Phillipus in Wonder Woman earlier this year.)
While there is some imagery suggesting ties to Man of Steel and the DC cinematic universe, including the design of the S which in the films implied hope, theres also a nod to a previous take on the franchise, as some bars from John Williams classic Superman theme can be heard near the end. Those notes and the trailer itself seemed to elicit a positive response and applause from the audience.
While a new trailer for "Krypton" has not yet been released by Warner Bros. or SyFy, that may change following the series' panel this Saturday.
Here's the full synopsis for Krypton:
Syfys Krypton, the much-anticipated Superman prequel set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steels home planet, will follow Supermans grandfather whose House of El was ostracized and shamed as he fights to redeem his familys honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
Krypton will be executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer/showrunner; Colm McCarthy (She Who Brings Gifts, Peaky Blinders) is set to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. The pilot teleplay and story is written by David S. Goyer & Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Krypton will be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics.
